Yara Big Bag Knife
After several good discussions with Danish farmers in 2016, it quickly became clear that opening big bags is being done in many different ways at farm level. Some farmers use hobby knifes and others create their own solution for opening the big bags. This often creates a high work risk for the farmer as they needs to put their arm, or sometimes their whole body, under the bag to slice it open. If the bag happens to fall down during this operation, the farmer could be severely injured. With more than 400,000 Yara big bags distributed in Denmark each year, the risks are high.
With this knowledge in mind, Yara Denmark started to investigate the possibility of creating a smarter and safer way of opening big bags.
The development of a telescopic knife was done in cooperation with an external agency and the whole project was focused on creating a quality tool with the highest possible user safety.
